About Orange NJ
Orange is a township in Essex County, NJ. As of the 2020 census, the population was approximately 34,500. It was incorporated as a township in 1806 by an act of the New Jersey Legislature. In 1860 is was re-incorporated as a town, and again in 1872, it was re-incorporated as a city. In 1982, Orange, along with several other municipalities in Essex County, became a township to take advantage of federal revenue-sharing policies. The name “Orange”, as for all the Oranges, is taken from William III of England, or William IV, Prince of Orange. The township is bordered by the Essex County municipalities of East Orange, Glen Ridge, Montclair, South Orange, and West Orange.
